Sweet & Vibrant Green Smoothie

If you’re anything like me, you don’t love giving your kids regular juice. I rarely buy them, and if I do it tends to be either cold pressed apple or pure orange juice. It’s a personal choice.
In my opinion generic juices are just really watered down fruit concentrate with a whole bunch of sugar, not a lot of valuable nutrients. If they want a juice, I have no problem pulling out the blender and whipping them up a smoothie instead. At least I know what goes into it and they can help in the process.
What I love about making smoothies in particular is you can throw anything that is too ripe in the fridge or counter into one. It’s a great way to not waste food. Anytime your bananas become too ripe, never throw them away. Just peel, chop into chunks, and throw them into a ziploc bag in the freezer. These ripe fruits and veggies make delicious smoothies.
One of the kids’ favourites is surprisingly this green smoothie I make. You would think the colour might deter them, but they actually love it! I think it helps that mom and dad’s favourite colour is green!

Sweet Vibrant Green Smoothie
Equipment
- 1 high speed blender
Ingredients
- 1 Frozen ripe banana making sure the bananas are frozen is key to the creamy texture of this smoothie
- 1 cup Spinach I also keep my spinach in the freezer. it keeps it from going bad, and it's always available for when you want a smoothie
- 4-5 Pieces of frozen pineapple this is what adds the sweetness to the smoothie
- 1 cup Coconut water or regular water you can also put almond milk if you prefer a creamier flavour
- 4-5 Ice cubes
- 1 tsp Vanilla protein powder optional
- 1 scoop Greens superfood powder also optional, but I always added this and i would use the one that had no flavor
- 1 tsp Hemp hearts optional
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a high powder blender. I Use my smoothie ninja attachment
- Blend, starting at a medium speed and then increasing as the ingredients come together. You may also need to stop the blender once or twice to push the ingredients back to the bottom
- This step is optional, but after I'm done I like to put the smoothie into the freezer for about 5 minutes. I find this step helps thicken the smoothie giving it a really creamy texture for optimal enjoyment
